Government Rapid - Part III
And now for our thrilling conclusion to Mike's adventure in Government Rapid on the San Juan River on September 22.

After looking for a moment like it might be able to fly over the two large boulders at the bottom of the rapid, the Dagger Dimension rolls onto its side, ...
... sending paddler and paddle for a swim.
Mike and the canoe head downstream.
OK, I know that I'm supposed to be limited to three photos on Thursdays. But this bonus picture shows the beautiful scenery which surrounded us. In the distance, Mike probably wasn't enjoying the views too much as he finally caught up with the boat and pulled it over towards the right bank, as Zoltan (wearing a blue pfd) walks on our side of the river to check on him. But Mike may have enjoyed the well-earned satisfaction of knowing that he had at least attempted to run the toughest rapid on the San Juan River - unlike two of those in the party. Don't worry, Michael and Zoltan, I won't mention any names.
On another note, we were entertained that night by the sight of wet clothes and equipment, attached to sticks like so many marshmallows, being waved over the campfire. Ahh ... I love the smell of burning nylon in the evening.
Disclaimer: My attempt to run Government Rapid wasn't particularly elegant, either. I'm told that I crashed into the same obstacles that Mike did. Fortunately, no one was there to record what supposedly happened.
