Government Rapid - Part I

Mike lines up at the entrance to Government Rapid, a Class III rapid that is the most challenging on the San Juan River after it passes through Navajo Reservoir.  The rapid is most difficult at the lower water levels we encountered, as more boulders are exposed.

Mike readies for the major move required to avoid the two largest boulders and the hole created by them.

However, the current is swift and powerful, and it looks like he may be in trouble as the canoe nearly broadsides the first major obstacle.  Will he recover and make it through?  Will he survive?

To be continued ...
