London: War Rooms & City Lights

A fairly leisurely second day in London after sleeping in very late consisted of a visit to the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms. At left is the cabinet room, from which the U.K. was run during the bombings of the City. Guess who sat in the large wooden chair during the cabinet meetings?

The impressive map room is pictured above. To the right is Churchill's private office. Several of his wartime broadcasts were made from behind that desk.

By the time we emerged from the museum it was dark. This provided the opportunity for nightime photos of Big Ben's tower and Westminster Abbey.
